Grain painting, here is a fantastic version of this old world art.... Almost seems safari'ush.
Victorian-aged grains of quarter cut oak, coromandel, pitch pine have been hand painted to decorate this pine sea trunk. The painting has saved the pine from bugs and knocks and rot. The interior is also painted., albeit a couple of plain paint layers. This trunk could sure tell some stories with her patina of knocks and bumps along with some the top surface suffering some melted paint from proximity to intense heat (perhaps a fire). Fantastic storage say end oh bed, or coffee table, or even in a foyer for all your outdoorsy stuff. Rubbed, cleaned and waxed to her best condition. Circa 1880.
